Following lunch, explore Madras, a vibrant metropolis on the Coromandel Coast with a rich Portuguese, French, and East India Company history. Visit St. Mary's Church in Fort St. George, the Kapaleshwar Temple, and the Bronze Gallery at the museum. Dinner will be served at the hotel.
After breakfast, travel to Mahabalipuram, once a thriving Pallava dynasty port renowned for medieval monuments. See the great bas-relief of the descent of the Ganges, rock-cut mandapa temples, monolithic rath chariot temples, and the Shore Temple dedicated to Shiva. After lunch at a local restaurant, continue to Pondicherry, a former French colony until 1954. Check in at the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, head south to Gangaikondacholapuram and visit its extraordinary 11th-century temple with a 55-meter-high vimana and exquisite Chola statuary. Continue for lunch, then explore the Shiva sanctuary at Darasuram, known as Airavateshwara, admired for its exceptional sculptural details and black basalt statues. Drive onward to Tanjore, a historic city in the fertile Cauvery River delta and former Chola capital. Dinner and overnight stay follow.
After breakfast, visit the magnificent Brihadishwara Temple, one of South India's finest temples, dedicated to Lord Shiva and crowned by a massive carved boulder. Continue to the Nayaka Palace and Gallery of Bronzes, featuring Chola masterpieces created by the lost-wax technique. After lunch, drive to Sri Rangam to visit India's largest temple complex with seven concentric walls and soaring gopurams. Continue to Chettinad, known for grand merchant mansions. Dinner and overnight stay follow.
After breakfast, depart for Madurai. Upon arrival, check in and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, visit the celebrated Meenakshi Sundareshwara Temple, a double shrine surrounded by towering walls and richly decorated gopurams. After dinner at the hotel, return to the temple to witness the evening ritual in which Lord Sundareshwar is ceremonially carried to join Goddess Meenakshi for the night. Some sections of the palace and temple may be under restoration due to renovation work.
After breakfast, visit the Royal Palace of Tirumala Nayak, known for its towering pillars, and continue to the lively bazaar around the Meenakshi Temple. After lunch at the hotel, travel through the Vaigai and Kambam river valleys toward the Cardamom Hills on the Tamil Nadu–Kerala border. On arrival, check in at the hotel. Later, visit a local family's private spice plantation, learn about cultivation and trade, join a hands-on cooking session, and share a traditional dinner with the hosts.
After breakfast, descend through changing landscapes of tea plantations, spice gardens, rubber trees, and coconut groves before reaching the serene shores of Vembanad Lake. This lake forms part of Kerala's famous network of canals, lagoons, and waterways along the Malabar Coast. On arrival, check in to the hotel and enjoy lunch. The afternoon is free, with the option to book a traditional Ayurvedic massage on-site. Dinner will be served at the hotel.
After breakfast, depart for Alleppey and board a traditional rice boat for a scenic cruise through the peaceful canals and lagoons of the Kerala Backwaters. Observe rural life, farmers at work, rice paddies, and field activities as you drift through the waterways. A simple lunch is served on board. Later, disembark in Alleppey and drive to Cochin, the historic principal port of the Malabar Coast. Check in at the hotel and enjoy dinner.
Enjoy a full-board day in Cochin. In the morning, visit Mattancherry Palace, originally built by the Portuguese for the Raja of Cochin and now known for its 16th-century murals. Continue to the White Jewish Synagogue, famous for its Chinese tile flooring, and stroll through the Jewish quarter with antique and curio shops. Visit the Church of St. Francis and the iconic Chinese fishing nets at the harbor entrance. In the afternoon, witness a Kathakali performance, Kerala's traditional pantomime dance.
